André Vits
Consultant – Transport and traffic management
Dr André Vits is a graduate of the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, in Electro-Mechanical Engineering and holds a PhD in Civil Engineering. His research focused on traffic planning and management, the application of IT in data acquisition and processing for traffic control and near accident analysis amongst others topics. As Lecturer in Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning since 1983, he is the author of numerous studies on the transport system and road traffic management in Belgium.
André worked with the European Commission since 1988, initially on the DRIVE programme. Nominated Head of Unit in 2000, he has been in charge of the ICT for transport activities until 2009. Since that date he has acted as evaluator in regional and federal research initiatives and as a consultant for national and regional administrations and European research consortia. In 2009, André received the eSafety Lifetime Achievement Award.
